Description
This hand-woven cotton towel celebrates the heritage of Koraput tribal weaving, a centuries-old craft tradition from Odisha. Crafted by skilled artisans using time-honored techniques, each piece features intricate hand-embroidered borders and delicate diamond motifs on a soft cream base. Made from premium natural cotton, this towel is breathable and lightweight yet insulating—perfect for layering year-round. The classic fringed hem and tactile texture add authentic character, whether draped over a sofa, folded at the foot of a bed, or worn as a personal wrap.
The weaving tradition originates in Kotpad, a town in Koraput district, where the Mirgan (Panika) weaving community has been producing handwoven textiles for nearly 500 years, with some scholars suggesting even older origins. Historically, these weavers created fabrics primarily for neighboring tribal communities such as the Bhatra, Gond, Paroja, Dharua, and Bhotada, who used the cloth for everyday wear and ceremonial garments. The traditional textiles were known for their vegetable-dyed yarns, using roots of the Aal (Indian Madder / Morinda citrifolia) tree, producing earthy shades of maroon, brown, black, and rust.
Dimensions: 1.8 meters long × 36 inches wide.
Available in natural, red, green, sky blue, blue, brown, black, and cashew brown. Every throw is a unique creation, ethically produced by Koraput's tribal weavers and ideal for those who value handmade home decor and sustainable craftsmanship.
